War Thunder Sound Pack



What is a sound mod? It is a modification of the sound files with in the game to change the experience of the game via new sounds like different gun sounds, engine sounds, and damage sounds. I know, your probably wondering: Gaijin does not allow mods for War Thunder! That is true but only to a certain extent. We have User skins, which are in a way mods themselves, as well as user made missions. We even have an official word about sound mods here:


You might also wonder: I can install the sound mod with no issue. What's the problem? The problem is that, because it overrides the existing sound files ingame, if there is an update, you must update the game and then reinstall the sound files all over again. The other issue is what if you just want to modify only the sounds of planes only, or tanks only, or just 1 plane or 1 tank? It's not that simple. Well, Officially supported sound packs would be a helpful solution. It would allow to you install sound packs and use them right out of the box so-to-speak, and would allow you to use them ingame with out overriding anything. Best of all, it would allow you to have more than one sound pack, and make it easier to make your own. In addition, it would also add more flavor to the game. How would you like to use your Historical IS-2 userskin with the actual cannon and MG sounds recorded from a real IS-2, while driving the IS-2, or other favorite plane/tank? That would be a huge ball of fun!

The other benefit from a sound pack is that it can allow you to swap sounds for either all or only certain planes/tanks. For example, I could take the Shkas gun sound, used on the I-16, and replace it with the M3 Browning gun sound. or replace the cannon sound of the T-34/76, and replace it with the 100mm D10T sound for fun. And I could set it to where it would only effect that plane/tank, and not the others.


In conclusion official support for sound packs would make the game even more fun to play, and would add more creativity that can be enjoyed by all kinds of players. You could use authentic and realistic sounds, or you could use some silly, unrealistic sounds, like the potato gun sound from the 2015 April fools "Potato" tanks event.


i never understood why most war game companies dont use original sounds for guns/tanks/planes etc or even add community made sound mod into game and reward creator, whats reason behind it? too much work or permissions/copyright stuff or just lazy? [my question might be stupid?]


When there is an update, I don't "reinstall" the sounds, I just make a copy of original sound folder and rename it, then when I need to update it I edit names to correct ones, wait for update, then put modded sounds back in. Simple.


It can still be an inconvenience though. To have to do it every time there is an update (Particularly after a major update comes, where you will have to do it regularly). It's just not something all of us would want to do. Some of us just want to install the sounds and leave them with out worrying. No bother, no waiting.


I read time ago they not want to implement specific and real sound for guns/motor why they say it's play with advantage, don't have much sense from part of Gaijin, but this is the argument they say always


After the Viking Update, I want to switch back to the tank-sounds before the update, because the new tank-gun-sounds are horrible and useless. No way to defer the different guns! Gaijin what have you done to the game immersion? Stupid change!


IF you remember my last comment from the dagor 5.0 graphics devblog I asked for a sound revolution sometime in the future but went on to say that I'm sure your team has their hands full and we cant have everything we want when we want it....well turns out we can!!! What a nice surprise. This is turning out to be a very awesome update indeed. Thanks again guys for all your hard work. Time to donate some hard earned cash to this wonderful game


This is incorrect information. Anton the CEO and the CTO (sound dev), have given permission and even official support for sound mods. I even have my own sound mods shared on Live.warthunder.com. Further more, the Sound Dev is rumored to be working on an official tutorial and release of the sound files to be accessible for anyone who wishes to make a sound mod.


I try to make my own sound mod too... But no information around on this forums. So far I found out that you need to generate your own .fev .fsb files, which then you can paste into "mod" folder. Those files are build by using software named FMOD Designer, but this software is no more downloadable from publisher wesite(since 2015). You just need to know, that game engine, is calling sound "events". And it is calling them by names passing event parameters. So what you need to do in your own project is to create events which has same name and same named parameters as game developers defined.


This mod is first a ambience mod, not a historical one. I'll be the first to admit that some of these sounds make me think "wtf was that supposed to be?", and considering im not a audio Technician/engineer or anything, Progress is very slow.


This mod is does NOT come from me re-working/editing Gaijins original .fev file, it is me trying to copy whatthe devs have done and trying to guess what the game engine call's are in order to get sounds to work. That means that when u cannot hear a sound it isnt because i muted it or forget to turn it on, it's because i havent added it yet.


Previously the engine sounds that all Tiger models used, were sourced from Tiger 131 at Bovington. But as most models in the game are based of the Tiger 2 chassis I thought it would be a better choice for a swap. Also I feel the Royal Tiger has abit more character.


So these sounds were taken from the Royal Tiger based at Saumer. It seems to get alot more personal outings and with alot less attraction which means there is better coverage of it in more enclosed environments without people shouting and such ruining the sound.


As I said, I think the Tiger 2 is abit more vocal maybe because of its exhausts and different transmission idk. The previous sound of the Tiger 1 I had was alot more of a droning growl, and didn't feel like it had any detail in it. So by that account a change was necessary.


I dont know if you'll ever read this, but i wanted to thank you for your excellent work. I've never heard a better sound for my beloved panther.I really enjoyed the gun sounds, the atmosphere and all the tanks.


Gaijin should really invest in some new sound effects for guns and rounds flying past, engines, ambient and especially crews. It makes such a huge difference and really adds to the immersion. Mods like this show exactly that.


why TF you playing the same tiger in the second game! Phly really, when you showing us a sound pack you dont let us hear the same sounds over and over! make another video and explore the mod


I wish the MG impact sounds would continue until they stop hitting you instead of them repeating with a delay. Would make it more realistic but I guess it would be annoying for many people. Just imagine a continuous pelting on your armor..


how hard is it for Gajin to pay mod makers for content? Id be happy if i spent couple days collecting sounds, then modding them to fit the game and then selling it to Gajin for small amount of money. It would encourage ppl to start creating content for Gajin and Gajin could reassign ppl to more important matters that need to be fixed.


Accompanying the visual improvements is a complete redesign of in-game sound effects. Each shot effect is now created from several layers of sounds that correspond to peak and residual effects. Thus, experienced tankers are now able to determine the caliber of the cannon that fired the shot, even from distance. The effects themselves received additional details, so players can now hear the sound of cases dropping as they fire, or the working loading mechanisms of their cannons. Aircraft sounds are more vibrant and powerful. Further improvements are also planned for future updates.


War Thunder, a free-to-play Steam game, relies on DLC purchases for funding. Its most expensive DLC, the Ace Advanced Pack, mysteriously jumped from $39.99 to $49.99 in early June. Their Dora Advanced Pack also jumped in price from $19.99 to $29.99, but in March.
